Bishop Earl Fernandes will ordain Deacon Zachary Goodchild to the priesthood on Saturday, May 23 at 10 a.m. at Columbus St. Joseph Cathedral, 212 E. Broad St.

The ordination Mass is open to anyone who would like to attend. A light reception will follow in the Cathedral undercroft.

Deacon Goodchild, 30, a member of Pickerington St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, spent his final year of studies at the Pontifical College Josephinum, located in north Columbus.

His assignments have included St. John Paul II Scioto Catholic Parish (Portsmouth Holy Redeemer, Holy Trinity, St. Mary and Wheelersburg St. Peter in Chains churches), Columbus St. James the Less, Canal Winchester Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish and Spanish immersions in Columbus and Casa Hogar in Lurín, Peru. He also served at the Joint Organization for Inner-City Needs, now part of Catholic Social Services, and the former St. Lawrence Haven soup kitchen.
