Members of the Columbus St. Francis DeSales High School Ski and Board Club recently traveled to Snow Trails, a ski, snowboarding and snow tubing resort in Mansfield. Students delivered a $2,000 check for Adaptive Sports Connection (ASC).
The donation will help fund needs of the ASC Center at Snow Trails, which is dedicated to making joys of snow sports accessible to all. DeSales’ Ski and Board Club has contributed more than $11,000 to ASC during the past decade.
ASC is an active member of Disabled Sports USA, a national organization focused on improving the lives of wounded warriors, youth and adults with disabilities. It provides individuals with sports and recreation opportunities.
Tim Eckert, DeSales Ski & Board Club advisor; junior Logan Eckert, Adaptive Sports Connection student representative; and Valerie Sharritts, St. Francis DeSales Ski & Board Club Head advisor, were present to deliver the donation.
Doug Wolf, president and CEO at ASC, wrote the high school a note afterward, thanking them for their contribution.
“When I met Val, Logan and Tim as they brought the check by Snow Trails this afternoon, it did not feel like a school donating to a cause,” Wolf said.
“It felt like members of our community showing up for their own people. There was humility, there was pride, there was ownership – that posture stays with you.”
“Your mission speaks of forming students in mind, body and spirit to love God, seek truth and live virtuously. I see that formation when students choose to create belonging for individuals whose abilities look different from their own.”
