Funeral Mass for Sister Elizabeth Chickory, OP (Order of Preachers), 90, who died Thursday, April 30, will be celebrated Saturday, May 7 at the Motherhouse of the Dominican Sisters of Peace, followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery.
She was born on June 30, 1935 in Astoria, New York, to Joseph and Elizabeth (Campbell) Chickory.
She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from St. Mary of the Springs College (now Ohio Dominican University) in 1958 and a Master of Science degree from Duquesne University in 1973.

She entered the congregation of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs (now the Dominican Sisters of Peace) in 1953 and made her profession of vows on July 9, 1955, taking the name Sister Mary Ferrer.
In the Diocese of Columbus, she was a teacher at Columbus St. Thomas the Apostle (1963-1965) and Zanesville St. Thomas Aquinas (1973-1974) schools, assistant director of human resources for the congregation (1984-1989) and treasurer at the Motherhouse (from 2013).

She also was a teacher and school librarian and ministered to the elderly at several sites in the Diocese of Steubenville, Connecticut, Michigan, New York and Pennsylvania.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Joe and Thomas; and a sister, Ellen Menton.
