Amulya Jessica aged 19 is a student of Artificial Intelligence at Morning Star College, Diocese of Guntur, India. She is a deserving student who has a sincere desire to pursue higher education and build a better future for herself and her family. She is particularly interested in computer education and digital skills, understanding that computer knowledge has become essential for higher education, employment and career development. She dreams of acquiring practical skills, obtaining stable employment and becoming financially independent so that she can support her family and lead a dignified life. Jessica possesses the willingness to learn, the determination to work hard and a genuine ambition to improve her circumstances. Unfortunately, she lost her dad few years ago who was serving a small protestant community and family’s financial condition has become a major obstacle to fulfilling this dream.

Amulya Jessica belongs to a Dalit Christian family from a socially and economically disadvantaged background, belonging to a community that has historically faced social discrimination, exclusion and limited access to educational and economic opportunities. Her family has very limited financial resources, and her mother struggles to meet their basic household needs of three girls. Their income is insufficient to comfortably bear the expenses associated with higher education. College fees, books, transportation, study materials, examination expenses and computer education together place a significant financial burden on the family. Despite her strong interest in continuing her education, Jessica does not have the financial means necessary to pursue her aspirations. Her circumstances reflect the difficulties faced by many deserving students from disadvantaged communities, whose educational opportunities can remain limited not because of a lack of ability, interest or determination, but because of persistent financial and social barriers.

Women’s education is one of the most powerful tools for social and economic development in India. Yet, rural and marginalized girls continue to face barriers such as: Early marriages, financial hardship, lack of family support, limited access to digital resources and modern skill training.

To address this challenge, Morning Star College started “Digital Sunrise” a project designed to empower 100 girls every year from poor, down-trodden, Christian and Dalit communities through computer education, digital skills, and career guidance.

Amulya Jessica is one such student a topper in the class, who joined the college and studying first year B.Sc, Artificial Intelligence and she is very grateful to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church — Marysville, OH, Diocese of Columbus, for their financial support through MCP to study at Morning Star College.

Thanks to Fr. Kavanagh the pastor and Our Lady of Lourdes parish community who have generously shown a path and opportunity in Jessica’s life to move forward to access computer education, strengthen her digital literacy, develop practical and employability skills, and prepare herself for future employment opportunities. In today’s increasingly digital world, these skills can significantly improve a young person’s ability to pursue further education, seek meaningful employment and become self-reliant.
