On October 28 there was a fire in the basement of Mount Vernon St. Vincent de Paul Church.
In a letter to parishioners, Father P.J. Brandimarti, pastor of St. John the Baptist, said that no one was injured and the Blessed Sacrament was removed right away.
First Responders, including the St. Vincent de Paul School Resource Officer, were extremely helpful. The Bishop and Diocesan offices are aware and supportive of restoration efforts. Unfortunately due to significant smoke damage St. Vincent de Paul Church will be closed for the immediate future. Based on the initial repair estimate there is hope that the church will be open in time for Christmas.
