Given the number of Catholics who are required to work on weekends – medical and hospital professionals; police, firefighters and EMS; transportation, restaurant, retail, and so many others – Saint Brendan the Navigator Parish (4475 Dublin Road, Hilliard) will begin celebrating a regular Sunday 8:00 p.m. Mass to help those who cannot attend Mass earlier on Sundays.
“The addition of a Sunday 8:00 p.m. Mass came about through discussions with parishioners who are required to work on weekends,” said Fr. Mike Lumpe, Pastor of Saint Brendan’s. “If they work a 12-hour, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. shift, our current Sunday Mass schedule was of no help to them, so our discussions yielded fruit that an 8:00 p.m. Sunday Mass would work best.

“The 4:00 p.m. Mass time change was proposed as an outgrowth of the 8:00 p.m. Mass change discussion,” added Fr. Mike. “There was a tidal wave of parishioner requests that the 5:30 p.m. Sunday Vigil Mass (Saturday evening) be moved up to 4:00 p.m. to accommodate a number of valid issues and concerns. I asked for feedback from parishioners — only four parishioners raised concerns opposing the change, over 300 parishioners spoke in favor of the change to 4:00 p.m., so there you go.”
The first Sunday 8:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated on the First Sunday of Advent, November 29; this will be a “quiet” Mass, with no hymns sung. Coinciding with this weekend, beginning November 28, Saint Brendan’s will also permanently move it’s 5:30 p.m. Vigil Mass (Saturday evening) up to 4:00 p.m. For additional information please visit https://stbrendans.net or call the Parish Office at (614) 876-1272.
