Oct. 15 was Infant Loss Awareness Day, and the entire month of October is dedicated to remembering child loss. To accompany families who have lost children, Back in His Arms Again Ministry hosted an annual Wave of Light ceremony, part of the International Wave of Light.
The Wave of Light took place at Resurrection Cemetery at the Garden of the Holy Innocents, a burial section dedicated to infants and babies lost in miscarriage. Today, the Garden of the Holy Innocents is a peaceful final resting place for nearly 4,000 children. It is available to any parent, free of charge, with the hope that it can help provide families a healing place.
A short remembrance program was held with Father Jacob Stinnett, hospital chaplain, who offered opening and closing prayers. Kambra Conley, executive director of Back in His Arms Again, offered a heartfelt reflection for families who have lost little ones.

She reminded everyone that, even amidst great sorrow, we can find joy in the beauty of life. She reminded us that, even when we mention someone’s child who has died, it sometimes can serve as a bittersweet testament to a child who is so deeply loved and so deeply missed. Most importantly, she reminded families that everyone’s story is different, and no grief or healing is the same.
Families were given a votive candle, and together, with lit candles, they walked to a Blessed Virgin Mary statue at the heart of the Garden of the Holy Innocents. Remembering the joy and sorrow that accompanies such great love, each family could share the names of children who are buried there.
