Funeral Mass for Sister Mary Meenan, OP, 97, who died Saturday, April 4 at the Mohun Health Care Center, was celebrated Thursday, April 9 at the Motherhouse of the Dominican Sisters of Peace. Burial was at St. Joseph Cemetery, Columbus.
She was born on Jan. 24, 1929 in Philadelphia to Owen and Mary Ann (Magee) Meenan. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business education from the College of St. Rose in Albany, New York, in 1961; studied at Villanova University and completed her clinical pastoral education at St. Joseph Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
She entered the congregation of Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine de’ Ricci (now the Dominican Sisters of Peace) in 1955 and professed her vows on Feb. 13, 1958, taking the name Sister Mary Eugene.
She served in retreat ministry in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and in Pennsylvania, New York, Florida, Ohio, New Mexico and South Carolina, in religious education in New York and in pastoral care in Pennsylvania.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene, and a sister, Ann, and is survived by a godson and cousins.
