Columbus Bishop Watterson High School awarded diplomas to 212 graduating seniors on Saturday, May 27 in the school gymnasium. A Baccalaureate Mass was celebrated there on Thursday, May 25.
Ninety-eight percent (208) of the class members were accepted at institutions of higher education and received more than $22.3 million in college merit scholarship offers. They will be attending 56 colleges and universities. One student will be entering the U.S. Coast Guard, and one will join the Ohio Air National Guard.
The school awarded 96 state honors diplomas, with 99 students receiving the Presidential Award for Excellence. One class member had a perfect score of 36 on the American College Test, and 11 had perfect scores in individual subjects. Class members totaled more than 9,215 service hours in addition to the required sophomore service training program.
Thirty-two students were honored as valedictorians, meaning they had a grade-point average of 4.0 or better and 12 credits of honors courses. There were 193 academic medals, presented for an “A” average all four years, awarded in individual subjects. Fourteen students received service charity cords for at least 220 hours of community service above the sophomore service requirement.
