Columbus Bishop Watterson High School awarded diplomas to 218 graduating seniors on Saturday, May 23 in the school gymnasium. A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated on Thursday, May 21.
Ninety-six percent of the class members were accepted by a total of 217 institutions of higher education and received over $37.4 million in college merit scholarship offers. They will be attending 58 different colleges and universities. Two point five percent will join the military, attend a trade school or take a gap or service year.
One hundred two received the Presidential Award for Excellence. Twenty-two received the Ohio Governor’s Merit Scholarship. Sixteen class members had perfect scores in individual subjects on the American College Test. Class members totaled 16,103 service hours, not including the Sophomore Service Training Program.

There were 214 academic medals, presented for an “A” average all four years, awarded in individual subjects. Thirty-five students received charity cords for at least 250 hours of community service.
Latin honors were presented to 98 students, 12 of whom received summa cum laude medals for posting grade-point averages of 4.15 or higher. Another 54 students were awarded magna cum laude medals (3.90 to 4.14 GPA) with 32 receiving cum laude medals (3.70 to 3.89).
